Term Two has come to an end, and what a busy and enjoyable eleven weeks it has been!

To reflect on the fantastic term, the students in 3/4C wrote a poem about a memorable event. They used a variety of poetry styles that they have explored over the past few weeks.

What are you looking forward to next term?
Yesterday was Wacky Wednesday in 3/4C.
We read the hilarious Dr Seuss classic Wacky Wednesday and let our imaginations run wild to come up with our own wacky scenarios.
Each student drew a picture in the style of the Wacky Wednesday book. They included some silly or unexpected things in their artwork. Students then wrote a short rhyme to accompany their picture.

Can you come up with your own wacky rhyme?
Mrs Morris had the chance to teach 4A and 4B again during the week while their teachers had a planning day. We investigated the Winter Solstice.
The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of the year. It will be happening in the Southern Hemisphere this Saturday 21st June. After the solstice, the days will start to get longer again.
This video helped us understand more about the seasons, solstices and equinoxes.
Many people from different cultures enjoy celebrating the solstices each year. In some countries, like the USA, the solstices mark the first day of winter and summer.
Many 4A and 4B students noticed that the sun had been setting earlier and rising later recently. We investigated the sunrise and sunset times throughout the year to see how they change during each season.
The students worked with a partner to create a table in Pages on their iPad. They used the website timeanddate.com to calculate day lengths.
Bebe and Jaz investigated the 24th of each month over the last year.
Eevie and Alex researched the 8th of each month.

Yesterday, Mrs Morris taught 4B while Miss Jordan was at a professional development day. One of the activities the students worked on with Mrs Morris was a colour poem.
We take in our surroundings using all five senses: sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell. The students in 4B reflected on this and created a poem that described a colour using the five senses. They used lots of adjectives (describing words) and descriptive imagery in their writing.
The students created their poems by:
- brainstorming their ideas
- drafting their poem
- publishing their work
The published pieces are all fantastic and really create a clear image in the reader’s mind!

This is a guest post by Mrs Morris. Mrs Morris used to team teach with Miss Jordan. She is currently on family leave looking after her baby girl.
Today was planning day for the grade three and four teachers. While the teachers were busy getting ready for next term, the students rotated around different classrooms for some exciting lessons.
Mrs Morris took all the grade threes and fours for a forty minute problem solving lesson. The lesson was called “Plants” and was adapted from the NRICH site.

The students did a fabulous job of using problem solving strategies. Many started with “guess, check and improve” and some students moved on to “working systematically”.
Here are some of the 4A and 4B mathematicians using counters and Venn diagrams to try to solve the problem.
Many students found six or more solutions with a small number of children finding 11 or 12 possible arrangements!
